Getting Started

Once you have registered and verified your account all you need to do is follow these five simple steps:

1. Enter the amount you wish to send and your reason for sending the money

2. Confirm your personal details

3. Enter your recipients' details (full name, address, country and bank details*)

4. Confirms all the details

5. Follow the instructions in step 5 to fund your payment by domestic bank transfer

Once you have completed that process, we will take care of the rest.

*Banking details will vary depending on the recipients country Learn More

Financial institutions often obscure the actual cost of sending money. Here at Instant Global Payments, we believe in full transparency. So to truly compare the cost of different providers there are two things you need to consider:

  1. The exchange rate margin

  2. The fixed fee; and

The exchange rate margin may sound complex, but in fact, it is really simple, think of it as similar to the markup any shop applies to the items it sells. Just as a fresh food grocer buys apples cheaper than it sells them, banks buy currencies cheaper than it sells them. The difference between what the bank buys it for and what the bank sells it for is known as the 'exchange rate margin'. Banks usually apply a margin of 4-6%, so for every $10,000 you send they make around $400-$600; without most people even noticing. Banks often try to obscure how much they make on these transactions, but we are completely transparent. We will apply an exchange rate margin of 0.6% for anyone that opens an account and as low as 0.3% for our large clients!

The fixed fee is the cost you will most commonly see advertised. Banks fixed fee usually ranges from $20 to $30. Banks charge this fee to cover the cost they are charged by network providers (SWIFT, SEPA etc.) for sending your money. The actual network charges range from $1-$32(AUD) depending on the money's destination country, however financial institutions charge the upper end of this to cover themselves in the worst case scenario. We will only ever charge you the minimum $1(AUD) fixed fee per transaction and add the extra fee if we need to.

The required information for a bank transfer changes depending on the recipients country. Our systems will dynamically adapt to the information you enter and tell you what is needed.

The word 'Instant' in Instant Global Payments comes from our ability to convert currencies in only a couple of minutes. Our system is a vast improvement on the slow and expensive processes traditional banks use to convert currencies. As illustrated in the diagram below the most time-consuming part is the domestic bank transfer either side of the currency conversion. Due to the delays of the sender and recipient banks, the usual transfer time is 48 hours*.

*This is only an estimate based on prior transfers, should be used only as a guide and may be extended by either bank's additional delays.

WHAT IS A COOKIE?

Cookies and other tracking technologies (such as browser cookies and local storage, pixel beacons, and Adobe Flash technology including cookies) are comprised of small bits of data or code that often include a de-identified or anonymous unique identifier. Websites, apps and other services send this data to your browser (on your computer or mobile device) when you first request a web page and then store the data on your computer so that such websites, apps and other services can access information when you make subsequent requests for pages from that service. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work in a better, more efficient way. For example, they can recognize you and remember important information that will make your use of a website more convenient (e.g., by remembering your user preferences).

WHAT COOKIES DO WE USE?

We use a variety of different types of Cookies on our Sites. Different Cookies have different specific purposes but in general they are all used so that we can improve your experience in using our Sites and interacting with us. Some of the purposes of different Cookies we use are described below.

(B) We may use Cookies to allow us to remember the choices you make while browsing the Site, and to provide enhanced and more personalized content and features, such as customizing a certain webpage, providing relevant advertising or editorial content, remembering if we have asked you to participate in a promotion and for other services you request, like watching a video or commenting on a blog.

(C) We may use Cookies to receive and record information about your computer, device, and browser, potentially including your IP address, browser type, and other software or hardware information. If you access the Site from a mobile or other device, we may collect a unique device identifier assigned to that device (“UDID”), geolocation data, or other transactional information for that device.

(D) We and our service providers and advertisers may use analytics Cookies, which are sometimes called performance cookies, to collect information about your use of the Site and enable us to improve the way it works. Analytics Cookies collect information about how you use the Site, for instance, which pages you go to most. The information allows us to see the overall patterns of usage on the Site, help us record any difficulties you have with the Site and show us whether our advertising is effective or not.

(E) We and our service providers and advertisers may use advertising Cookies to deliver ads that we believe are more relevant to you and your interests. This improves our ability to provide you with more relevant editorial and advertising content based on your activity across our connected network.

All information derived from these Cookies may be combined with other information acquired from third parties, and we may share this information with other organizations, such as advertisers, provided it is anonymised. As with any fintech company, there is a risk that Instant Global Payment’s services being used to launder money and finance terrorism. Australian law and applicable local laws, requires us to put training, processes and systems in place to identify, manage and mitigate this risk. We do this to protect Australia and to comply with relevant law. Failure to do so may result in social harm, significant penalties, including legal and regulatory action.

Our AML/CTF policy

Sets out how the we comply with its legislative obligations, and

Applies to all employees.

Money laundering is the process of hiding or disguising the source of illegally obtained (“dirty”) funds to make them appear legitimate (“clean”), e.g. by filtering them through the financial system.

Money laundering

Money laundering is the process of hiding or disguising the source of illegally obtained (“dirty”) funds to make them appear legitimate (“clean”), e.g. by filtering them through the financial system.

Money laundering reduces the risk of detection and confiscation by authorities.

Terrorism financing

Terrorism financing differs from money laundering in 3 main ways:

1) Its primary purpose is to disguise the ultimate use of the funds, as opposed to their origin

2) It can involve relatively small sums of money, which can have a huge impact in terms of death, destruction and disruption, and

3) Although terrorists may finance their activities through crime, legitimate funds can also be misappropriated to finance terrorism.

Customer identification

The AML/CTF Act provides a list of ‘designated services’, such as opening an account or making a transfer. Before receiving any of these designated services, customers will be required to provide proof of identity or similar documentation. Instant Global Payments collects and verifies this information.

Sanctions Policy

Instant Global Payments is prohibited from transacting with individuals, companies and countries that are on prescribed Sanctions lists. We therefore screen against United Nations sanctions lists as part of our Customer identification process.

Suspicion

Money laundering and terrorism financing (ML/TF) are sometimes detected because a customer acts or behaves in a suspicious way. For a ‘suspicion’ to be valid, we must have reasonable grounds to believe ML/TF activity may be occurring. To support this, employees receive training in identifying and reporting suspicious matters.

Our key AML/CTF principles

1) Comply with AML/CTF legislation in the countries we operate in,

2) Strive to fulfil international standards as detailed in the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF),

3) Work in conjunction with the Australian Government and the governments of the countries we operate in, and support their objectives in relation to the prevention, detection and control of ML/TF,

4) Maintain and comply with an AML/CTF program, as required by Australian AML/CTF legislation.

Policy roles and responsibilities

Instant Global Payments Executive Management has continuous oversight of our AML/CTF policy and procedures. All permanent and temporary employees must comply with these, attend training specific to their role, and report suspicious matters or behaviours. We have an AML/CTF Officer, responsible for monitoring the status and effectiveness of the Group’s AML/CTF risk management and compliance and reporting it to our Executive team.

Our AML/CTF program

The design and implementation of the program was tailored to our ML/TF risk profile, applying specific systems and controls, including:

1) ML/TF risk assessment,

2) Employee training,

3) Employee and customer due diligence, and

4) Transaction monitoring.

Monitoring and reporting

We also report the following information to AUSTRAC, Australia’s AML/CTF regulator:

1) Electronic transfers of funds into or out of Australia,

2) Any transactions or other activities regarded as suspicious.
